David Handelsman AO MB BS PhD FRACP FAHMS is Professor of Reproductive Endocrinology and Andrology, University of Sydney, inaugural and now Emeritus Director and Andrology group leader, ANZAC Research Institute (1999-2021) and founding Head of Australia’s only Andrology Department at Concord Hospital (1999-). His discovery, clinical and public health research focuses on androgen physiology, pharmacology, toxicology, and men’s health. He reported the proof-of-principle contraceptive efficacy study of a combination androgen progestin regimen (2003). His recent interests are in anti-doping science and gender eligibility for elite sports, androgen misuse and abuse and operating the only research-oriented steroid mass spectrometry laboratory in Australia. He has published over 750 peer-reviewed papers with >44,000 citations (h index 115) making him among the most cited author on androgens or testosterone.
