Leaf Kardol

Leaf Kardol is a sessional tutor and lecturer, second year PhD student and research assistant at the School of Human Sciences at the University of Western Australia. They bring their lived experience of being a non-binary, queer, neurodivergent and disabled reproductive biologist, along with their passion for teaching, to finding new ways to improve inclusivity, diversity and equality in both teaching and research. Since 2022, they have worked with Nick Fimognari, Associate Professor Caitlin Wyrwoll, Dr Jeremy Smith and Terese O’Shannassy to make ground-breaking changes to the standard reproductive biology syllabus at UWA, receiving a team UWA Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning Citation in 2023.​​​​​​​ In their PhD, they are researching how exposure to nitrate in drinking water impacts pregnancy, maternal and fetal outcomes. They are a recipient of the Graduate Women WA in Science and Mathematics Scholarship.
