Dr Katharina Jähn-Rickert

B.O.N.E Speaker, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE)

I am principal investigator at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Germany with a research focus on the functional analysis and imaging of osteocytes in various disease states. By training, I am a biochemist with a degree from the University of Leipzig, Germany. During my Ph.D. at the AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland and Cardiff University, UK I discovered my passion for osteocyte biology, and together with my experience as postdoctoral fellow at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, USA I developed my expertise in various culture models of osteocytes, osteocyte-specific animal models and imaging approaches for the osteocyte lacuno-canalicular network. Together with the team at the UKE, Germany I drive to employ an interdisciplinary approach to osteocyte research utilizing a combination of biological methods, high-resolution imaging and various bone quality analyses to discover novel insights to osteocyte biology.
