Using his training in chemistry, Geoff investigates the origins and pathways of oxidative stress in sperm and the loss of function that usually results. His key interest is to understand how both sperm proteins and the paternal DNA becomes damaged under this stress and how these oxidative insults may be prevented for therapeutic benefit and enhanced reproductive outcomes. Geoff is also currently investigating the potential effects of electromagnetic energy, used by wireless communication technologies, on male fertility, with an overarching goal to understand the fundamentals of how this low energy radiation can influence sperm function. From the University of Newcastle, Geoff has a strong reputation as an educator at the tertiary and undergraduate levels across the Hunter Valley region, and training postgraduate students in reproductive biology and andrology throughout his career.
