Dr Belinda van Heerwaarden

University of Melbourne

Belinda is an evolutionary biologist, working as an ARC Future fellow at the School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Her research aims to understand the potential for species to respond adaptively to environmental change and identify what factors underpin climate change resilience and vulnerability, including the impacts of thermal stress on fertility.

Belinda completed my undergraduate degree at La Trobe University, where she majored in conservation biology and ecology. She did her PhD at The University of Melbourne, investigating limits to climatic adaptation in rainforest species under the supervision of Prof. Ary Hoffmann. She then moved to Monash University, where she worked as a research fellow for Prof. Carla Sgro before being awarded ARC APD and DECRA fellowships
